On the BBC’s easygoing early evening show Great British Railway Journeys last week, former Tory MP Michael Portillo visited Kilwinning Archers, who claim to be the oldest continuously operating archery society in the world. (Incidentally, the Scorton Silver Arrow also claims to be the oldest sporting competition in the world; perhaps it’s a matter of recorded history…)
